What is the LOC?

_{The local optical committee is a statutory NHS body comprising all optometrists within a given area who provide services through the GOS. An elected executive of the LOC meets regularly to conduct the business of the committee.  Interested parties (optometrists, dispensing opticians, lay contractors) ae welcome to observe at the meetings, although there may be occasions where they are asked to leave the room temporarily.}

_{As a title, 'LOC' is confusing since it actually refers to the collective body of local NHS/ GOS primary care contractors. Every member is invited to attend the LOC annual general meeting at which, as well as a structured agenda, open discussion and active participation is encouraged.}

_{If circumstances require, the LOC executive will call a special general meeting to discuss important matters with the whole local profession. Equally, if an optometrist wishes to develop any particular ideas, or pursue something with the LOC, the executive would be pleased to take any appropriate action.}

_{What does the LOC do?}

_{The LOC represents the interests of its optometrists and acts as local interface with the NHS, and all other health related organisations and providers who wish to deal collectively with optometrists.}

_{Currently the LOC:}

• _{Works alongside the CCG's and meets at a regular liaison group}
• _{Liaises with local ophthalmologists and GP's, looking at issues shared between the professions}
• _{Provides an executive member to develop and implement high quality clinical and practice governance}
• _{Provides an annual CET day for all local optometrists and dispensing opticians}
• _{Has been developing triaging and shared care schemes across the area in conjunction with the CCG's and NHS England}

_{Annual general meeting towards the end of September or early October.}
